LLM Engineer
The Upright Project
Helsinki, Finland
Posted on Feb 26, 2025
Are you a software developer or data scientist with extensive hands-on experience in sophisticated LLM workflows? We’re looking for an LLM expert to join Upright's Data Team and help shape the future of our cutting-edge impact data products, which power decision-making for 300+ institutional investment organizations and corporations across Europe and North America.
Upright's data teams plan, develop, and maintain the data pipelines and algorithms behind Upright's impact data products and supporting datasets. The work is directly tied to Upright's mission to equip companies' stakeholders with high-quality impact data – to help them see the forest from the trees in the increasingly overwhelming sustainability discussion.
In your role, you will plan and implement new LLM-based information extraction and data processing workflows, along with improving existing ones. To succeed in your role, you need to be creative, able to quickly implement potentially many different solutions, analyze what works, and have excellent judgment and intuition on how a problem that is solvable with LLMs should be approached.
This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-growing company while shaping the future of our data products. Responsibilities will be tailored to match your experience and interests, ensuring you can thrive in a role that aligns with your strengths and ambitions.
We are primarily looking for senior engineers with at least 6 years of professional experience in data science and/or software development, but are open to also considering exceptional candidates with less experience if they can demonstrate their proficiency and exceptional achievements.
SIGNS OF BEING A GREAT MATCH FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
- At least 6 years experience in software development and/or data science, and at least 1 year of professional experience in Typescript
- Experience with key technologies in the Upright tech stack, which include Typescript, Node, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, AWS, and React. You don't need to have experience in the exact Upright stack, but you should have enough relevant experience to be able to learn any missing parts quickly
- Solid track record of internal passion for excellence: you have gotten things done clearly better than what was required/expected from you, as you enjoy doing things well
- Sense of urgency and drive to get the job done with tight deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of the whole software lifecycle including design, development, deployment, and operations
- Ability to think analytically, structure your work, and solve problems proactively
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team that includes technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
ADDITIONALLY, WE VALUE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deep experience in developing distributed, data-intensive software products
- Experience working with machine learning technologies (other than LLM applications)
- Experience in React
- Proficiency in designing user interfaces and UX
WHAT WE OFFER:
- A chance to join a quickly growing and highly ambitious impact SaaS company with a mission that matters
- A fun and kind team with exceptional people who care about what they do
- Exciting professional growth opportunities
- Competitive compensation, including stock options and a comprehensive healthcare package
Location: Helsinki, Finland.
Deadline: Candidates will be reviewed on a continuous basis and the role will be filled as soon as the right person is found.
