Director, Data Development

The Upright Project

The Upright Project

Helsinki, Finland
Posted on Tuesday, February 27, 2024
Upright's mission is to make it financially more attractive to run a net positive company than a net negative one. This requires building a model to quantify companies' net impact and adapting the data to real-life use cases. From the very beginning, we have been committed to focusing on the big picture, while making sure our data is backed by science, comparable and credible. Today, our Net Impact Platform is the world’s largest open-access impact database with over 10,000+ company profiles publicly available. And this is just the beginning of our journey.
We are now looking for a Director of Data Development to join the team and take ownership of the development and implementation of a key part of the model and data as we continue to grow rapidly. The exact scope will be refined based on the skills and interests of the applicant. Some examples of potential scopes include leading scalable modeling of companies' core business, adapting impact data engine to regulatory use cases, or developing world-leading product-based metrics for companies SDG alignment and misalignment.
As Director of Data Development, you will be responsible for the whole funnel of development spanning from methodology to final results. You will be responsible for leading and executing the data quality and scope improvement work. You will constantly develop your deep understanding of topics relevant to the scope of the role and translate learnings to your team members working with sales, customer success, and data development.
This will be a new role for Upright, offering you the opportunity to influence its scope and structure. You will play a pivotal role in taking the company to the next level as we continue to build and scale our innovative data offerings.

SIGNS FOR BEING A GREAT MATCH WITH THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Ability to think analytically and structure your work proactively
  • Solid track record of working with data
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Solid track record of internal passion for excellence: you have gotten things done clearly better than what was required/expected from you, as you enjoy doing things well
  • Sense of urgency and drive to get the job done with tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

ADDITIONALLY, WE VALUE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of sustainability regulation and its implications for product development or experience of operating in a regulated industry
  • Understanding of SaaS business models and scalability optimization

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • A chance to join a quickly growing and highly ambitious impact SaaS company with a mission that matters
  • A fun and kind team with exceptional people who care about what they do
  • Exciting professional growth opportunities
  • Competitive compensation, including stock options and a comprehensive health care package
MISSION THAT MATTERS
Upright is on a mission to incentivize companies to optimize their net impact by enabling science-based decision-making for investors, customers, employees, and public sector agents. To do that, Upright develops a proprietary data model based on an open-access database of 200M+ scientific articles and artificial intelligence to quantify the net impact of companies on people, planet, society, and knowledge creation. In addition to net impact, Upright produces data on UN SDG alignment, EU taxonomy, and EU SFDR PAI indicators. Currently, our impact data platform is used by 200+ institutional investors and companies, such as Nasdaq, Nordea, Royal Bank of Canada, EQT and Nokia.
