Who Are We?

Thaleron is a driven team with significant financial backing developing an entirely new mechanical energy storage technology. We have proven it in the lab, and are now building our first scale prototypes. Our aim is not to just make a carbon-free grid cost-competitive with fossil fuels, but drastically cheaper. If we succeed, we will unlock the fourth industrial revolution.

Your Team

We believe in small superstar teams, with high autonomy and responsibility. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Thaleron, you’ll be part of a team of world experts, developing new concepts, rapidly building and testing to destruction.

Our team is onsite in West London at least Tuesday to Thursday, creating an environment conducive to rapid innovation and seamless teamwork.

Your Role

          • Design, build and test functioning prototypes by thinking creatively to find novel solutions that optimise for performance and cost.
          • Quickly assess their feasibility and performance from first principles calculations.
          • Iterate on designs in your head, reaching working solutions before formal design
          • Design in CAD around the most suitable manufacturing methods
          • Design and build test rigs with appropriate sensors to determine the performance of prototypes
          • Assemble all the above and conduct tests

          What you need to succeed:

          • Very strong team player. Working well as part of our team is, if anything, more important than individual brilliance.
          • A bias for action and getting hands-on work done

          • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any equivalent field.
          • Good analytical (applied maths) skills to calculate performance and feasibility of mechanical designs. Sheet metal stresses, structural steel frames, aerodynamic drag, inertia.
          • High spatial reasoning to allow accurate and rapid 3D design before CAD
          • CAD skills - solids, sheet metal, weldments, surfaces, design in context, simulation.
          • Able to produce accurate technical drawings with tolerances.

          Extra kudos:

          • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining processes and limitations.

          Candidate Journey:

          1. Talent Screen - video call (30-45 minutes) - an introductory call with our talent consultant.

          2. Technical Interview - video call (60 minutes) - initial, technically focused interview with our founders.

          3. Onsite meeting (half-day) - in-person meeting with the team in central London. You'll participate in a collaborative task and spend valuable time with the whole team.

Along the way, we might also ask you to speak with one of our major investors.

This process is designed to give you every chance to get the measure of us, and us of you. The various stages give you a fair opportunity to show your unique strengths and qualities, and enables each of us to establish if we’re a good fit for the other.

Please share with us any individual needs or reasonable adjustments we may need to make in advance of commencing the interview process with us.
