Automation Engineer [Mid-Level] (m/w/d)

Berlin - Lichtenberg, Berlin - Kreuzberg
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your mission

In this role, you'll carry out electrical installations, maintain and troubleshoot production equipment, and ensure our systems meet the highest safety standards — all while supporting general facility upkeep across our sites. You'll be the go-to technical expert who keeps things running, solves problems fast, and helps integrate new equipment as we grow.

This is more than a job—it's your opportunity to turn ideas into action and help tackle one of the planet's most pressing challenges. Let's build a sustainable future together.

Key responsibilities

Electrical Work

  • Carry out electrical installations, modifications, and repairs on production equipment and building infrastructure in compliance with VDE/DIN/IEC standards.

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, control panels, and machinery.

  • Troubleshoot electrical faults across production equipment — diagnosing and resolving issues quickly to minimise downtime.

  • Support the integration of new equipment into existing production lines.

  • Conduct electrical safety testing and inspections (DGUV V3) and maintain accurate maintenance records.

  • Work with PLC-controlled systems (Beckhoff); basic troubleshooting and parameter adjustments — full programming not required.

Facility & Mechanical Maintenance

  • Carry out general facility maintenance tasks — lighting, plumbing basics, doors, flooring, and building services, and perform routine mechanical checks and minor repairs on production equipment.

  • Support the team during equipment commissioning, relocations, and facility upgrades.

  • Monitor and report on facility conditions; escalate issues proactively.

Your profile

If you're a skilled electrical technician who thrives in a hands-on industrial environment and wants to make a real impact with your technical expertise, this is your chance to keep the production backbone of a fast-growing, purpose-driven startup running at its best. Join us now as we scale our operations and build our new facility in Bernau bei Berlin.

Requirements

  • Completed apprenticeship (Berufsausbildung) in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related trade — a university degree is not required.

  • Legal certification to carry out electrical work independently — Elektrofachkraft (EFK) status per DIN VDE 1000-10 / DGUV V3 is required.

  • 3-5 years practical experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment — food production or FMCG is a strong plus.

  • Solid understanding of German and European electrical regulations (VDE, DIN, IEC).

  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Broad hands-on skills across electrical and general facility maintenance — a 'fix it' mindset.

  • This role is primarily in Bernau bei Berlin - proximity to or willingness to relocate is a plus.

  • Willingness to be On-Call during night shifts, and to come in to work to perform on demand technical support to our production equipment.

  • Strong German language skills are required; English is a plus.
