Join Our Mission at Biozeroc!

We are on the lookout for a Production Technician to join our construction technology start-up based in Cambridge, UK. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to cutting-edge materials production at the unique intersection of biology, materials science, and engineering—a field with the potential to decarbonise the construction industry significantly.

This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven company dedicated to making a real impact in the fight against climate change. If you are a practical, hands-on problem solver, excited about production and manufacturing, and eager to be part of a fast-moving and collaborative team, we would love to hear from you!

About Biozeroc

At Biozeroc, we are on a mission to help the construction industry build a carbon-neutral future. Through our proprietary technology, we tackle up to 8% of the world's carbon emissions, replacing carbon-intensive materials such as concrete.

After successfully raising VC funding and securing over £1M in grant support, we are now expanding our production team to achieve our ambitious goals.

The Role:

As a Production Technician, you will play a crucial role in developing and evolving our early-stage bioconcrete manufacturing processes. You will help ensure high-quality production and smooth operations, delivering sustainable construction products to specification and safety guidelines. In this hands-on, often physical role, you’ll collaborate with engineers, designers and a team of biotechnology scientists to develop and optimise processes to elevate product quality and production volume. Working in a small, energetic start-up, this role offers plenty of opportunities for learning and development for those with a passion for our mission and the energy and enthusiasm to get stuck-in and make a difference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up production - get moulds and mixes ready for efficient runs.
  • Optimise production - oversee processes, troubleshoot issues, and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure product quality - monitor products, maintain standards, and take corrective action
  • Problem-solve - identify challenges, suggest solutions and take corrective action.
  • Document procedures - help create and maintain standard operating guidelines.
  • Support Health & Safety - follow best practice and contribute to risk assessments.
  • Coordinate across teams - work with different teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage inventory - keep track of materials, chemicals and cleaning supplies.
  • Hands-on work - handle physical tasks, including moving heavy items (up to 25kg) in an industrial setting.

Successful Applicants Will Have the Following

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial production.

  • Experience following and optimising manufacturing and production processes.

  • Early-stage production process development and process up-scaling would be a plus.

  • Strong practical skills. Ability to operate hand tools and power tools. You enjoy doing DIY in your free time, and take pleasure in getting stuff done

  • Familiarity working in a production setting requiring high levels of care, quality checking and assurance.

  • Experience developing and/or following Standard Operating Procedures

  • Familiarity with COSHH and Health & Safety regulations.

  • A formal qualification in engineering, operations or science such as A Level, HND, or BSc is desirable, though experience in a relevant manufacturing environment is also highly valued.

  • Able to follow procedures accurately and consistently.

Key Traits to Succeed in This Role:

  • Proactive and self-motivated - you will be driven to make an impact in your work and have a track record for doing so.

  • You have an eye for the small details - ability to spot issues, suggest improvements, and execute tasks efficiently.

  • Curious and adaptable - you are open to learning new techniques, refining processes and working to a deadline.

  • Willingness to learn and help out - you’re happy to work flexibly, roll-your-sleeves up, and rally the team to help support team goals and deadlines.

  • Physically fit and comfortable working in an industrial environment which will involve physical tasks, regular cleaning and moving and organising kit, products and machinery in the lab.
